I'm sure you already know but you might wont to put on silicone on the header bolt. If you remember the header bolts go into the coolant jackets. Please don't get made just some people forget that the Chevy big block is the only one that has that belt that way.

Interesting. I have a 32 marinette with a pair of Chrysler 360s. I want to pull them and either swap in smaller Cummins or a pair of Perkins. Having twins I’ll need to upgrade one transmission as mine can’t be run in reverse at speed without burning up As many have pointed out torque will be a math issue you’ll need to work out or you can literally snap shaft in the leg How are you going to cool it? You’ll need to build manifolds won’t you? Are you going to go closed loop cooling? Be better in the end than raw water if you ever hit salt/brackish At least our marinette is aluminium, no rot. Have welder will modify 😂 I also thinking possibly an outboard on a float bracket too Watching your swap with great interest I’m also not going with an engine with an ECM. You have emissions sensors etc on a duramax to deal/bypass etc.

As a rule, boats rot from the bottom up. If the transom is rotten, so are the stringers. Leaving them because there is some good wood is like having rust holes in the bottom of the frame under the motor mounts. You CAN leave it, but somebody will be addressing it eventually. Wood rot doesn't stop.

I was planning on doing pretty much this same thing in a Carolina classic 25 with an 8.1 in it now. My issue is I have a Volvo penta outdrive right now. The lb7 will require an ecm and a ficm. Just something to keep in mind when you find an ecm. There’s a company in Australia that makes all kinds of water pump and cooler accessories for the duramaxes. Victorian marine technology is the company I believe.

Honestly if you have gone this far with the rebuild why not replace the whole stringer. If you end up having to move those front mount bolts slightly it will be pretty weak.

I would definitely upgrade the bolts to the outdrive to hardened bolts so you don’t spin that sucker in the transom.

I've done it before you can go beefy where it joins to the transom and it will be way stronger than when it left the Bayliner factory. Check for rot where the engine mounts lag bolts are pretty famous for rotting there

You need to cap those stringers and through bolt the caps on the sides of the stringers, or the torque could rip the bolts out of the top of the stringers. Essentially, you make a plate shaped like a U to cover the whole stringer and that is what your motor attaches to, then the U shaped cap is through bolted to the stringer. You can buy these instead of making them, but you are more than capable of making them yourself.

Just cut out the rot end like a wedge and replace with new would in same shape. It's called a scarf joint. You can get fancy with it and add puzzle shapes into the joint, but for where it is, just scarf it and affatch with epoxy. And btw, unlike wood glue, you realy don't need clamps. Have fun.

People have mentioned on UA-cam that they're yacht no longer has a diesel smell after converting to elect. Diesel cost nowadays as much as gas. It's going to be a noisy smoke bomb. Install some big rig smoke stacks to detour the fumes from the yacht..

For marine applications, often the exhaust manifolds need watercooling to avoid overheating. Another point is the different rpms at max power, and different torque values at different rpms. Might require different prop? What are your thoughts?

You are more than doubling the torque replace the stringer

If you plan to run the boat on the ocean you will want to run a rad in stead of just running lake water through the engine.

Do they make a boat oil pan for Duramax? They hold more oil and keep oil cooler.
